Deputy Edward Ramsperger
A dedicated public servant in Monroe County, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024. He was 75.
Born on September 22, 1948, Ed was the youngest of seven children. Ed learned early on the importance of service to others, as well as getting to the dinner table first. That passion to help others grew and he became a committed public servant as an adult.
Ed began his career with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the 1970s, initially working in records. Much to the surprise of friends and family, he was given the keys to a police car and became a member of the road patrol. After several years on the road, Ed moved into community service, where he made a lasting impact with his dedication and innovation. In 1984, in a shocking turn of events, Ed was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. To this day, he has refused to give it back. Notable among his many contributions, Ed co-founded the Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reduction Unit (STAR), collaborated with Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD), was an active member in the Sheriff’s Office Association of Retirees (SOAR), was honored as New York State’s DARE Officer of the Year in 1994. He also proudly retired as a Sergeant Major in the United States Army Reserves.
While Ed’s career was marked by notable achievements, his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family. He cherished the opportunity to travel with his wife, Joanne, to their second home in Millen’s Bay in the Thousand Islands. Above all, Ed found immense joy in his three grandchildren, Jacob, Lily, and Jackson, who were the light of his life.
Ed is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Catherine Anne, and his siblings Bob, Diane, Cathy, Vince, Ron, and John. Investigator William Lawler
Bill was a Christmas surprise, born on 12/25/1956 in Auburn, NY – a place which holds cherished memories of a happy life with his younger brother, Ron, and his parents (now deceased) William and Betty. Bill and Molly continued close relationships in Auburn with friends and extended family members throughout the years.
On 10/5/2024 William (Bill) Lawler lost his battle with Huntington’s disease, a battle he courageously fought for 15 years. Bill died as he wished, at home surrounded by the loves of his life – his wife Molly and his two daughters Maggie and Brigid. In addition Bill received endless support from Maggie’s husband, Jordan Seidel and Brigid’s fiancé, Brian Mulhern.
After attending college at RIT Bill initially worked at St. Joseph’s Villa as a counselor for troubled youths. Soon after he embarked on a career in law enforcement, first with the Monroe County Sheriff’s department, and then with the Rochester Police Department. He served a total of 31 years and his career ran the gamut from patrol officer, to narcotics squad, homicide negotiator, and mounted (horse) patrol. Until his retirement in the fall of 2011 Bill served with honor, courage and pride alongside many fellow officers. Post-diagnosis, Bill was blessed to have many, many close friends who served as drivers, caregivers, entertainers and confidants. The family is forever grateful for their love and support.
Bill proposed to Molly at Dromoland Castle in Ireland. They were wed on October 12, 1991 and settled into an active life of service together – Molly as a nurse and Bill with the RPD. Once Maggie and Brigid were born life got even busier with Irish dancing, softball, track and field, volleyball and traveling to spend time with family.
Bill received a surprise diagnosis of Huntington’s disease in 2009 and the family spent the next 15 years dedicated to helping find a cure. Bill and numerous friends and family members organized and supported the “Bill Lawler Huntington’s 5K” for many years, with all $250,000 in proceeds dedicated to Huntington’s research.
The family would like to recognize the many incredible professional caregivers who helped support Bill (and family) towards the end of his life. We sincerely thank you for all you did—and for the kind and thoughtful way you did it. Bill died as he lived – a fighter until the very end.

Officer Robert Cutt Jr.
Survived by his wife, Margaret (Midge); son, Robert III (Robby); daughter, Valerie Mault (Michael); granddaughter, Michaela Mault; step-grandsons, Michael and Logan Mault; mother, Shirley Cutt; sisters, Carol Antonelli (Robert), Linda Muscarella; mother-in-law, Veronica Lembke; brothers-in-law, Mark Lembke (Marcia Buckley) and Matthew Lembke; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Robert J. Cutt, Sr and father-in-law Robert Lembke. Retired from City of Rochester Police Department.
Married Midge after a whirlwind romance that started in the emergency department at St. Mary’s Hospital. They became engaged three months after meeting and married less than eleven months after becoming engaged. They spent over 40 years together. Married 39 years, through thick and thin, good times and bad. Bob was a creative, inventive artisan who could take pieces of nothing and create inspired things. He would look at something and say, “I have a plan” and whatever that plan was, it always worked. Midge would say, “How did you think of this? You should patent it”. He never did.
He was a gifted craftsman, making handmade custom holsters from a piece of leather. He came up with his own designs. He learned this skill when he first bought guns because he couldn’t afford holsters. His designs were inspired and his leather can be found around the world.
He was a lover of all things firearms, a talented firearms instructor and weapons expert. He loved electronics, computers, photography and was amazing when it came to cooking on a grill. Little gave him more pleasure than sitting on the deck in the summer, grilling something and target shooting in our back yard with his latest passion, CO2 guns. He created a “range” with targets throughout the yard with measurements and would test different BBs and pellets and keep records on each.
He had a sense of humor that was wry and sarcastic.
He loved his family, especially his children, for whom he would do anything. He was so proud of them. It gave him great joy to walk Valerie down the aisle when she got married, loved to go to their house and shoot with her husband and step-sons in their back yard. He would bring an array of weapons and enjoyed spending time with them. His face always lit up when he saw our granddaughter and pictures of her when he couldn’t be with her. He was proud of Robby, relying on him for so much. He has been a God-send and made our lives easier by being with us. They enjoyed many common interests and had the same opinions on many topics.
He was a lover of animals, and our latest love Max, was his constant buddy.
He had a huge and varied circle of friends, many of whom he considered family. He was able to create a rapport with people anywhere and at any time.
He achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. A career that was part of his DNA. He was a police officer to his bones. Prior to that he was an EMT, police dispatcher and in the first class of Civilian Evidence Technicians for the City of Rochester Police Department. He went through the police academy for the Town of Gates and lateralled back to the city. He retired after 26 years of service. He missed being a police officer every day. He continued teaching firearms to various agencies for several years and always had the scanner on and was proud that his daughter carried on the family tradition of becoming a police officer.
Over the last years, he overcame obstacles with is health with steadfast courage and determination. In spite of how he felt, he rarely complained despite pain and setbacks. He was so talented. He was a protector. He was a patriot. He was a good man and he has earned his rest.
Friends may call Thursday (Jan 16th) 4-8 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday (Jan 17th) 10:30 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
